First Time Winner, Dogma, Takes Home an ABBIE for “Arlington’s Best Place to Care for Your Pet”
Dogma Gourmet Dog Bakery and Boutique is a dog boutique like no other in our area. Dogma Bakery, as locals call it, first opened its doors in November of 2000 at the Lee-Harrison Shopping Center, and opened our eyes to a new form of pet supply store for dogs and cats. Dogma Bakery never sold animals, held regular dog and cat adoption events, supported local law enforcement canine officers by holding fundraisers for ballistic vests, provided oxygen masks for pets to local fire departments and worked hard to become the place to go for information on how to help animals in our area. In May of 2010, Dogma opened a second location in the Village at Shirlington and continues its commitment to our community.
Dogma Bakery was and still is an advocate for high quality food and treats for your pets. If you were in the market for the raw food diet for your pet, Dogma was the place to go! Dehydrated human grade food – try Dogma! Need a novel protein for your dog with allergies? Dogma carried goat meat long before it become common in the specialty stores we see around the Northern Virginia area. Dogma is proud to say that their local stalwart was the model for so many others.
Not only did Dogma Bakery start carrying the best foods available, they also committed to carrying better quality merchandise than was found in the existing pet stores and “big-box” stores. Specialty items for older pets, supplements for any ailment and active wear for dogs, such as boots, backpacks, travel bowls and more can be found in their stores, and oftentimes, you’ll see artwork and gift items from local companies and artists in our area.
What still makes Dogma Bakery unlike any of the other boutiques in our area is that Dogma Bakery bakes their own line of dog treats in the store every day. You can walk in to the store at Lee-Harrison Shopping Center to shop for a leash, or a gift for your dog-loving friend or family member, and smell cinnamon from the “Cinna-bones”; or maybe some parmesan cheese from the “Parmesan Kitties”. Dogma Bakery’s dog treats look like your grandma made them; and are made without the bright colors from artificial food coloring and sugar sprinkles used in some dog treats to give them the “cute” factor. Dogma Bakery works hard to provide only the healthiest treats possible by not adding any sugar, preservatives, nor baking out the moisture in their treats — would you want a dry, three-week old cookie? Dogma Bakery believes that your pets deserve the best you can give them; in their merchandise, their food, and their treats.
