Columbia Pike, Arlington's original Main Street, is a bohemian mix of the old and new, the down-home, and around–the–globe that truly represents Arlington's diversity. The Pike feeds traffic to several large federal government agencies (most notably the Pentagon) and more than 40,000 commuters travel on it every day. Direct bus routes link Columbia Pike with the Ballston and Pentagon Metrorail stations. But the Pike isn't all business. More than 70,000 citizens live in the surrounding tree-lined neighborhoods – several of which are Arlington's most established – making it the largest of Arlington's economic submarkets.
