Arlington is a 26-square-mile county located in Virginia, directly across the Potomac River from Washington, D.C. and is entirely contained inside the National Capital Beltway (Interstate 495).
Arlington County contains a number of unincorporated neighborhoods—often referred to as urban villages—which are centers of urban and commercial activity primarily located along Metro lines and other major transportation corridors.
